Nashville, Sept. 18, 2013 – Canada’s three-day country music festival, Boots and Hearts, is the largest of its kind to ever be hosted on Canadian soil and, with 25,000 spectators in attendance daily, it has become one of the largest in North America as well. The experience boasts top artists, such as Carrie Underwood, Tim McGraw, Jason Aldean, Miranda Lambert, Rascal Flatts, Kid Rock, and The Band Perry, along with a plethora of entertainment options throughout the weekend, including motocross shows, late night dance parties and impressive stage visuals. During this year’s festival,PixelFLEX facilitated the delivery of those impressive visuals on the Sirius XM-sponsored side stage through its high-quality, lightweight and flexible LED video curtain screens.

PixelFLEX provided 12 20mm panels for Boots and Hearts to deliver clear video content and effects to enrich the musical performances while also highlighting the festival’s sponsors. The panels are extremely lightweight and flexible, allowing them to bend or shape around structures without losing clarity. The panels also offer a solution for more delicate venues that cannot sustain a heavy screen, like the 30m by 55m tent covering the second stage at the festival.

“That particular staging had weight restrictions and I needed to find an LED video wall that was lightweight but could also achieve the visual goals that the client was after,” said Mitch Mazerolle of Metalworks, who served as production manager of ancillary stages for Boots and Hearts. “It turned out to be a great solution for this challenging situation.”

The panels were configured as a back wall behind the Sirius XM-sponsored stage and rotated different images across the screens throughout the day. During special events or performances, Adam Grosze, director of partnerships for the festival, mentioned that it was simple to change the video content from static images to a functioning video wall for the late night dance parties.

“The simplicity and ease of transition from one advertisement or sponsored segment to another was important to us,” said Grosze. “The PixelFlex screens were a great option and the ease of use and ability to integrate the panels across several different platforms was the biggest benefit of using PixelFLEX.”

Pleased with the ease of set-up and take-down, price and overall experience with PixelFLEX’s LED video curtains, the Boots and Hearts team is looking at additional ways to use the panels at next summer’s festival.

Videos and images can be sent to the screen using any computer with a DVI-D connection – PixelFLEX LED Curtains are available from low resolution to high resolution, allowing users to demonstrate simple effects or elaborate videos. The high caliber visual components of the curtains come with equally impressive customer service assistance and without the need for an extensive budget.

Memphis, Tenn., August 21, 2013–Thousands crowded into Bellevue Baptist Church in Memphis recently for a Sunday service not soon to be forgotten. PixelFLEX LED Curtains adorned the church stage with a vivid, bright and high-quality video screen celebrating the birth, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, adding a more lifelike feel to the service.

Flexible in all directions, PixelFLEX LED Curtains are able to bend and shape around structures for a more creative display, which is why Tony Morris, director of Technical Services for Bellevue, decided to utilize the panels for the performance backdrop.

“The flexibility really provides many advantages over the hard, inflexible panels,” said Morris. “Install and tear-down is extremely easy. Additionally, the rigging hardware on the top is simple to attach to the truss and the interconnection between the panels is all very straightforward.”

The production team cleared out the 75 ft. deep and 130 ft. wide stage, which usually has a 65 piece orchestra and a 200 voice choir, to have a clean slate for creating the atmosphere desired. The panels (20mm- 5 Panels) were used as a backdrop flown from a truss to enhance colors behind the singers, small band and pastor presenting during service that morning. The church’s stage has a trim height of about 45 ft. above the stage and the crew trimmed out the panels at 25 ft.

Pleased with the overall ease of set-up and tear-down, as well as the accessibility of the product, Morris said they are looking at additional ways of using PixelFLEX in the future.

“It’s amazing just how bright those things are,” said Morris. “We plan to try to incorporate the PixelFLEX panels in more elaborate productions moving forward to maximize the worship experience for our congregation.”

Houston, Tex., August 8, 2013 – Beach Retreat has been a tradition for the youth of Houston’s Second Baptist Church since 1978 and though the trips and the morals behind them remain the same, technology and imagery are ever advancing to enhance the experience and create powerful illustrations for thousands of high school and junior high students. Two years in a row, PixelFLEX has been able to provide Second Baptist Church with lightweight, flexible, high-quality LED video curtains that “wow” the students and staff alike, all at an attractive price point for the Church’s budget.

The retreat production crew used 2 18mm and 14 20mm PixelFLEX Curtains in collaboration with projection screens to bring life to stories told by pastors during the camps. The curtains were hung behind the narrator on stage with the purpose of giving the illusion that the audience was not confined in a room by four walls, but rather immersed and engaged in the story itself. Originally, static props were suggested as aids, but the team chose PixelFLEX as their creative solution and they agree that the effect would not have been as influential with a simple prop.

“We had nothing but absolutely stellar comments from everybody,” said Mark Sepulveda, Global Technical Director for Second Baptist Church. “We used it (PixelFLEX LED Curtains) differently from last year and it was much more engaging for the audience.”

The venues that host the retreats often have weight limitations for what can be hung from the ceiling, which offers few options for those who plan the set up. The fact that the PixelFLEX panels are so lightweight allowed for an easy set up without the worry of flying equipment that was too heavy for the location.

“Last year, we used it (PixelFLEX LED Curtains) more like eye candy,” Sepulveda continued. “This year, it was much more of an integral part of how we were managing the show from start to finish.  We essentially wanted to take an entire surface behind the stage and turn it into motion so that the room became smaller and the audience became more engaged with the entire stage as opposed to it being a tunnel at the end of the room that everyone was watching. That was sort of our concept behind building the environment with the PixelFLEX Curtains.”

Second Baptist Church was founded in 1927 and is currently led by Dr. Ed Young, the fifth pastor to lead the Church. Second Baptist Church features five campuses offering 17 services each week to its 60,000 members.

PixelFLEX LED Curtains recently provided sharp video images onstage during the third annual Music City Gives Back (MCGB) concert headlined by Rodney Atkins at the start of the Country Music Award Festival in downtown Nashville.

PixelFLEX LED Curtains recently provided sharp video images onstage during the third annual Music City Gives Back  (MCGB) concert headlined by Rodney Atkins at the start of the Country Music Award Festival in downtown Nashville. This year’s free concert, attended by 12,000 passionate country music fans, featured artists Josh Thompson, Jana Kramer and Justin Moore and benefitted relief efforts for the victims of the Oklahoma City tornadoes.

PixelFLEX provided 12 20mm panels for this year’s concert to deliver clear video content and effects to enrich the musical performances. This is the second year PixelFLEX’s industry-leading LED screens were used during the MCGB show, as the video curtains offer optimal flexibility and ease of use, according to event organizers.

“We love using PixelFLEX because they’re extremely easy to load in and tear down,” said Justin Hinote of Hill Entertainment Group, Atkins’ management team. “They store easier than any regular screen that we can get and they look great on stage; they made downtown Broadway really light up.”

Sunlight can be a concern for daytime concerts with screens looking faded or washed out on stage, but even with MCGB’s start time of 6p.m. Hinote was confident PixelFLEX would provide a superior product.  “Having used the panels in the past, I knew visibility wouldn’t be an issue and I wasn’t disappointed. The clarity was super all day, even in direct sunlight, and the picture improved as the night went on,” said Hinote.

Easy to operate and set up – videos and images can be sent to the screen using any computer with a DVI-D connection – PixelFLEX LED Curtains are available from low resolution to high resolution, allowing users to demonstrate simple effects or elaborate videos.

During the charitable event, the panels were arranged behind center stage to showcase videos, static images and effects throughout all four performances. PixelFLEX curtains were chosen specifically as the backdrop for the production to “blow up” and visually enhance the show for the audience.  “It’s great to use PixelFLEX screens when you’re designing the stage because they offer a lot of flexibility in the imaging and always look great,” said Hinote in closing.

PixelFLEX just released a new video of its “On Tour With” series featuring Rodney, which you can see here!

As Jeremy Camp, a chart-topping, Nashville-based contemporary Christian musician, prepares to go on tour to support his latest album, Reckless, his production team is taking along an aesthetically pleasing, easy to maintain stage production made possible with PixelFLEX LED Curtains. The cross-country road show boasts past and current hits from the artist as well as a high-quality video performance for its audience.

Flexible in all directions, PixelFLEX LED Curtains are able to bend and shape around structures for a more creative display, which is exactly how the Camp production crew has used the system on tour in the past.

Camp’s stage team has been utilizing user-friendly PixelFLEX technology for three years. This summer’s tour production consists of eight 20mm Generation 1 PixelFLEX panels individually hard mounted to 2″ custom designed aluminum tube framings, which are arranged in a diamond pattern in the center of the stage. The remaining LED panels are displayed both on either side of the set and mounted on the front of two 4′ high risers housing drums and keyboards.

The flexible, lightweight ease of the PixelFLEX curtains is the primary reason Camp’s lighting director, Marcus Wuebker, continues to use the product. “The lightweight portability is definitely one of the greatest selling points (of PixelFLEX panels),” said Wuebker. “Especially with what we’ve done with the frames, where we can put up all eight panels in about 15 minutes and have it wired and ready to display video.”

“On top of the panels’ exceptional performance, PixelFLEX’s customer service has been phenomenal,” said Wuebker. “PixelFLEX offers a great display that is easy to work with, and the bang that you get for your dollar is unbeatable.”

LED Inside

Nashville, Tenn., July 1, 2013 – PixelFLEX LED Curtains were a key element during the recent tours for Mary Mary and iShine because of their flexibility and lightweight design. The two Christian music groups played in a variety of unique theater and church spaces throughout their tours, which often meant a different stage set up would be required for each venue. Under the direction of Mike Houlihan, production and tour manager for both acts, PixelFLEX’s flexible and easy to use technology allowed for a high-quality production without the costly budget and excessive work for the road crew.

Grammy-winning act Mary Mary has been a mainstay on the R&B and gospel scene for more than 12 years. To make a big impression on the sister duo’s latest tour, Houlihan incorporated four 20mm resolution panels from PixelFLEX in the center of the stage to deliver videos of the act throughout the show, including clips from the group’s TV show featured on WE. PixelFLEX’s LED Curtain was the staple piece that Houlihan designed Mary Mary’s tour around.

“To make this work on the tour, we needed a solution that would fit into one truck along with the rest of the tour equipment,” Houlihan said. “Given the challenges presented by some of the venues, we also had to have a system that was easy to set up and tear down. PixelFLEX was the only alternative to meeting both needs while also providing pristine video quality to the audience.”

For iShine, a group of Christian teenage artists that tour and perform at churches each spring to minister to pre-teens and their families, Houlihan often was faced with setting up at venues with unmovable structures. On this tour, in which he used four 20mm resolution panels, the flexibility of the panels and ability to separate them to work around such structures was critical to Houlihan and his team.

“On the iShine tour, having a product that was very flexible made a huge difference for us,” Houlihan remarked. “Audience participation is a big part of the iShine tour, so we had to be able to show song lyrics and video behind the performers. With the stage size and depth different at each venue it would have been far more difficult to deliver the required content without the PixelFLEX system.”

Given the high level of audience and performer approval Houlihan has received regarding on the PixelFLEX LED Curtain, he’s currently mapping out future tours and plans for using the system in different ways.

“With the various challenges we faced at each venue, the folks that run the iShine tour were blown away by the PixelFLEX Curtain’s performance,” Houlihan concluded. “To be able to deliver high-quality video content no matter the venue configuration, while also saving money in production costs is a tremendous value to touring professionals.”

Easy to operate and set up – videos and images can be sent to the screen using any computer with a DVI-D connection – PixelFLEX LED Curtains are available from low resolution to high resolution, allowing users to demonstrate simple effects or elaborate videos.
