Nashville-based LED video manufacturer and Dallas-based digital media solutions provider work together at the DSE and GlobalShop industry showcases in Las Vegas

Nashville, 4/27/2017 – The world’s largest trade show dedicated exclusively to showcasing digital display and interactive technologies is DSE (Digital Signage Expo).  The annual show features over 200 exhibitors and gives key decision-makers the opportunity to experience all the latest technology in one location.  To attract attention on a crowded tradeshow floor, exhibitors at the show must utilize innovative digital displays themselves to create an eye-catching trade show environment. At the 2017 expo, digital media solution provider Reflect needed a dynamic display for their booth entrance, so they enlisted the assistance of Nashville-based PixelFLEX and chose FLEXLite II 3.9mm LED video to help capture the attention of those in attendance.

“Over the years at DSE we’ve seen tremendous growth in the digital technologies on display,” began Tracie Wilbanks, Reflect’s Vice President of Marketing. “This year, we decided to include LED video in our booth design to creatively showcase our market position as a turn-key provider of creative digital solutions and to help announce our new Reflect AdLogic™ ad trafficking software.  With these objectives in mind, we needed a high-resolution display technology that would attract people to our booth on a crowded show floor.  The FLEXLite II LED display was the ideal solution.”

FLEXLite II is the next generation of the FLEXLite Series of LED panels from the award-winning LED video manufacturer PixelFLEX. Available in 500mm x 500mm or 500mm x 1000mm panel sizes, the FLEXLite II offers resolutions from 2.6mm-6.25mm pixel pitch, and its die-cast aluminum frame provides durability, quick installation, and modular construction for ease of maintenance.

“Digital signage is definitely the fastest growing segment in the AV industry,” added Chas Thornhill, CTS, Reflect’s Senior Systems Engineer. “The market is growing beyond the traditional, single-screen digital experiences to include more complex applications utilizing interactive applications, multi-screen, large format displays, and much more LED.”

Wilbanks continued, “In today’s market, digital media is a common theme.  Technology, marketing, and IT managers are under pressure to do it right.  In the past, digital signage meant simply hanging a screen, but today, focused strategy, measurement, and optimization are needed to maximize the value and effectiveness of digital media networks.  A key part of our strategy is matching the display technology to the opportunity.

While the 2017 DSE was taking place inside the Las Vegas Convention Center, the GlobalShop trade show was happening simultaneously inside the Mandalay Bay Convention Center.  With PixelFLEX on site to showcase their LED video technologies to the retail industry, Reflect and PixelFLEX continued their successful technology partnership with the implementation of an interactive touch screen application.

“We developed an interactive video on demand application using two BrightSign media players for the PixelFLEX trade show booth,” explained Thornhill. “This custom touch screen application allowed attendees to easily launch video content specific to retail, restaurant, or sports arena verticals.”

“Over the last few years, we have seen a significant investment in LED video and control technologies from retail professionals and commercial designers around the world,” stated David Venus, PixelFLEX Director of Marketing. “By using the interactive application created by Reflect, guests at our booth could quickly identify the LED video technology solutions ideal for their designs and applications, and it was our great relationship with Reflect that made the visually engaging display possible.”

The LED industry experiences continuous technological advancements while the cost to deploy LED is declining. Once viewed as an overly-expensive branding solution, digital media networks have now become an affordable and viable marketing platform for multiple industries.

“LED displays, media player technology, and content management systems have begun to mature.  And as the overall solutions become more affordable, more companies are deploying comprehensive digital media networks,” concluded Thornhill. “Not long ago, LED display experiences were isolated and expensive, but with the development of products like FLEXLIte II from PixelFLEX, the overall cost is now comparable to LCD video walls.  That allows us to deploy them in a broader range of opportunities with far better results than LCD.”

These days consumers are exterminating in-home ads like household pests. As advertising technology grows more sophisticated, so does ad-blocking capabilities, squashing ads like bugs on television and mobile devices. How do advertisers get their brand in front of consumer eyes? Meet Digital-Out-of-Home (DOOH) advertising. Digital signage ads equipped with targeting, interactive and native capabilities that far exceed the old bus bench advertisement.

In a recent study, by Ocean Group, more than 86% of the media professionals polled identified DOOH advertising as having the biggest growth potential over the next five years. This statistic puts the medium ahead of mobile (67.2%) and Video on Demand (60.8%).

Traditional advertising methods no longer reach consumers in a meaningful way. A recent Nielsen study found that television and digital video ads achieved a brand retention rate of 20 to 50 percent, with likeability between 15 and 30 percent. One reason less intrusive digital signage advertising is projected to quickly surpass all other media channels, including mobile.

Today’s LED technology allows brands to deliver real-time, highly targeted messages to consumers as they go about their day. Strategically placed, networked digital signage can reach consumer eyes in transportation hubs, shopping malls, gas stations and hotels, anywhere the public meets. B2B advertisers can reach their audience through signage in office lobbies, airports and elevators.

In a Digital Signage Today interview, Rich Ventura outlined some major trends for 2017 including:

  • Measurability: New systems feature stronger measurement tools that deliver insights that help advertisers improve ROI. These metrics will help marketers better define vertical markets by reaching targeted audiences in delineated spaces.
  • Increased Mobile Integration: Greater mobile integration into DOOH and Wi-Fi networks will create stronger consumer engagement by delivering more relevant content. A stronger understanding of target audiences will lead to stronger networks, able to deliver custom content on a targeted basis.
  • Expanded Programmatic Content and Delivery: DOOH content will become increasingly relevant and deliver targeted, meaningful messages with branding that will truly engage consumers.

These trends will lead to increased spending and expansion of DOOH. Advertisers will be nimble with the ability to better engage their audience. David Venus of PixelFLEX, says, “You can quickly change your messaging if it seems to be ineffective, where with traditional mediums, you were stuck with what you placed.”

Mobile advertising has grown so cluttered that PageFair says one in five mobile devices worldwide now use ad-blocking software. Advertisers who ignore these trends will find themselves unable to market effectively, losing out on potential revenue and ROI increases. DOOH offers a clear alternative to mobile and video – and will only become more effective in years to come.

PixelFLEX has a large variety of award winning LED displays that can help create nearly any size and shape screen you desire. Our LED display systems are seamless, providing clear and detailed imaging. To learn more about how PixelFLEX can help you meet your DOOH goals, visit PixelFLEXLED.com today!

Utah-based event designers acquire FLEXCurtain HD 6.25mm LED video for their solutions-based inventory to create custom design experiences

Nashville, 3/8/2017 – Located in East American Fork, Utah, Cornerstone AV has built its success creating custom design experiences through a strong foundation of creativity blended with technology. With their strategic approach to event design, Vice President and Executive Producer Chad Fraughton understands that the design team must stay up-to-date with the latest technology solutions. Consistently needing a quality LED video solution to enhance their touring and corporate design creativity, Fraughton approached Nashville-based PixelFLEX and they recently acquired FLEXCurtain HD 6.25mm LED video technology.

“Our clients normally drive the demand for new technology and when we made the decision to purchase the FLEXCurtain HD 6.35mm the demands were actually a couple of things,” began Fraughton. “First, one of our vertical markets is the touring industry where the equipment has to install quickly whether it be indoor or outdoor. Next, our corporate clients needed a LED video solution that was fast and easy to assemble where the cost-savings of the labor component would offset the cost of the LED video system. Working with PixelFLEX we were confident that the FLEXCurtain HD would solve both these needs, and our design group has now started designing it into about 75% of all our designs.”

The Parnelli Award-winning FLEXCurtain HD is a lightweight and flexible LED video screen ideal for high-resolution video playback and video effects for a wide range of touring and live event applications. It’s hi-res LED video can be driven by any DVI output, and the multi-directional, flexible design makes it easy to store and transport. FLEXCurtain HD is 60-90% lighter than the competition, and using the quick-lock system, 500 square feet of FLEXCurtain HD can be set up and broken down in under 15 minutes.

“The quality and performance of the FLEXCurtain HD is outstanding,” continued Fraughton. “It is often coming in on one truck and then going out on the next. With such a busy production schedule, we haven’t seen any failures in the technology, and our technicians haven’t had any issues with its performance in the field.”

Initially driven by the demands of the corporate and touring markets, Cornerstone AV is also finding many other applications for the FLEXCurtain HD. Not bound by the limitations of other LED technologies, the FLEXCurtain HD is proving to be a very versatile and valuable asset for the Cornerstone AV design team.

“While the need for the FLEXCurtain HD first arose out of touring applications and corporate events, we are also seeing it as a LED video solution for almost every one of our vertical markets,” added Fraughton. “For example, we recently did a rebranding event for the Vivint Corporation and the NBA arena in Salt Lake City. The event was staged as a press conference in a small room at the arena, and to create something truly unique, we wrapped the entire room in the FLEXCurtain HD. The event organizers really wanted to put the attendees in the new environment, so we thought this would be a great way to immerse everyone in the new Vivint Arena.”

Having now worked with the FLEXCurtain HD 6.25mm LED video on a number of design projects, Fraughton is confident that Cornerstone AV made the right decision for their inventory. Now stocked with an LED video solution that can fit into a wide array of production environments, he is excited to also see how the design team will continue to push the limits of its creativity.

“We honestly see the applications of the FLEXCurtain HD 6.25mm as almost endless for all our clients whether it be corporate, live event or touring,” concluded Fraughton. “Our talented designers are really enjoying it as a viable, scenic element, and then also as a blank canvas for creativity where the LED technology can be used in many different applications.”

Designer Dave Boots and programmer Trevor Drawdy create a new production design for the well-known country quartet using FLEXCurtain HD 12.5mm LED video

Nashville, 2/20/2017 – Known worldwide for their distinctive four-part harmonies, The Oak Ridge Boys have created dozens of Country smash-hits and have earned a number of industry awards. Continuing their four decades of tradition, the group recently embarked on their latest nationwide tour, but this time they decided to bring a new LED video system along for the ride. Headed by production designer Dave Boots, the design team wanted the new system to inject a completely new energy into the high-energy and colorful production design, and they were able to create that energy using FLEXCurtain HD 12.5mm LED video from PixelFLEX.

“This was the groups 27th Annual Christmas tour and this is my 23rd tour with the band,” began production designer Dave Boots. “As far as the video goes this was a completely new production design, but while the original plan was for one big wall behind the band, I wanted a bit more creativity. I’ve always liked the idea of using multiple LED walls, so we went with a 12 foot wide by 8 foot high main wall, two additional vertical walls on both the left and right, and then four panels on the front of the risers on stage. We then added Christmas trees lit by LED fixtures in between all the FLEXCurtain LED walls, and when it all came together, it really looked great.

The Parnelli Award-winning FLEXCurtain HD is a lightweight and flexible LED video screen ideal for high resolution video playback and video effects for a wide range of touring and live event applications. Its hi-res LED video can be driven by any DVI output, and the multi-directional, flexible design makes it easy to store and transport. FLEXCurtain HD is 60-90% lighter than the competition, and using the quick-lock system, 500 square feet of FLEXCurtain HD can be set up and broken down in under 15 minutes.

“As our tour manager started speaking with Elite Multimedia about their various PixelFLEX products, we really liked how compact the FLEXCurtain HD would be and how easy it would be to set-up and tear down each night,” continued Boots. “They really helped us find the ideal LED video system for our production design and at the right budget.”

With the FLEXCurtain HD 12.5mm LED video technology now in the show, Boots and the team got straight to work on completing the new design. Since the LED video was a sort of last-minute addition to the gear list, Boots would not have very long before the first audience was in the house.

“We took the PixelFLEX gear to Branson, Missouri, for our rehearsals and then we had two days to set-up and complete the design. To help us with the content and programming, we brought on Trevor Drawdy who did an amazing job and deserves a lot of credit. We used an Arkaos media server to drive the system and we literally finished the programming an hour and a half before the first show, but it really worked out well.”

Now that the show was complete, it was time for Boots to enjoy the show. Knowing how hard the production team worked, he was extremely pleased with the new production design for the Grammy, Dove, CMA, and ACM award winners.

“The FLEXCurtain HD absolutely enhanced and changed our touring production design,” concluded Boots. “I’ve always been pleased with the tour, but this year everyone worked very hard and we really took it to a completely new level. When our executive producer Jon Mir was taking photos, he commented on how impressed he was with the LED video panels and how it all blended together for a beautiful new production design. The FLEXCurtain HD really made the show bigger and it was very exciting to see.”

Technical Director Adam Frey works with integration partner REACH Communications to install a 47’ wide FLEXTour LED video wall to complete the sanctuary renovation

Nashville, 2/8/2017 – Located in Minneapolis, MN, Substance Church (substancechurch.com) is a dynamic multi-site church that believes in doing things a bit differently by pushing the limits of the congregation’s expectations to build a stronger community. In holding true to their foundation, they recently underwent a LED video installation at their Northtown Campus with one of the largest LED video walls in any house of worship known today. Led by Adam Frey, Technical Director for Substance, the church wanted to complete their full production design with a high-resolution and virtually flicker-free LED video solution, so they chose FLEXTour LED video from PixelFLEX, installed by REACH Communications, Inc. of Champlin, MN.

“The project on a whole was a new lighting, projection and LED video installation for our auditorium that was built about a year ago, and this was the final piece of the design for the new space,” began Frey. “Ideally, we wanted an LED wall that could be easily reconfigured for future designs, and we also needed the most flicker-free performance with a high Hertz rate for our live streaming video. We looked at a number of different LED video manufacturers, but when spoke with PixelFLEX they were able to both work within our budget and provide us with the exact type of LED video wall we needed to complete our new worship environment.”

Getting the project underway, Frey began looking at the different LED video manufacturers and their product lines available. Working with integration partner REACH Communications, Frey soon began researching the award-winning line of PixelFLEX LED video technologies and subsequently made the decision to install the FLEXTour video wall.

“Our stage proscenium opening is 48’ wide by 22’ tall, and the final LED video wall ended up being 47.5’ wide by 11.5’ tall with the ability to move up and down as needed,” continued Frey. “Once we decided upon the FLEXTour, we only had about two weeks to complete the project so we worked with REACH Communications to help us complete the installation. Once we had the product on site, everything went exactly as we thought it would and REACH Communications really did a great job.”

As part of integrating the FLEXTour video wall solution, and contributing to the overall flexibility of the system, REACH Communications supplied the motors, motor control panel, box truss and rigging elements of the project.  This adds the capability of raising and lowering the video wall, which is an important feature for Substance Church.

With the LED video installation now complete, it was time for the FLEXTour to show the design team and the church leadership just what a difference it could make. Knowing the capabilities of the product line, Frey was confident it would be met with excitement from all.

“I was excited for everyone to see the FLEXTour in use and when we turned it on, everyone was very impressed with the brightness and high-definition quality of the LED video wall,” explained Frey. “With our live streaming video, we can get down to about a 4-foot square on the LED video wall before we see any pixelation, which is a great zoom distance from where the cameras are positioned, and it looks great on camera.”

Now ready to be shown the full congregation, the FLEXTour LED video wall made its debut at Substance Church during their annual Christmas services. As Christmas is the highest attendances time of the year, Frey was ready to debut the completed production design with the added dimension of creativity provided by the FLEXTour LED technology.

“The first time we used the new LED video wall was on our Christmas service and everyone was amazed at how much it transformed our worship environment,” admitted Frey. “It added a completely new layer to the service making it much more visually engaging through the use of the most current LED video technology.”

Looking back on the design process, Frey is not only complementary of the FLEXTour, but also all the PixelFLEX LED video solutions. After looking at the myriad of options available, he found a few advantages to working with PixelFLEX that can make a successful LED video design possible for other worship environments as well.

“The biggest advantage to working with PixelFLEX is the breadth and flexibility of the product lines they are creating,” concluded Frey. “They are not content to use the same technology over-and-over, but are instead continuing to develop and evolve their products for the betterment of any LED video installation with the best pricing to match.”

Award-winning design firm Xibita works with WorldWide Events to install 13 LED video elements at the American Heart Association Scientific Sessions in New Orleans

Nashville, 11/26/2017 – Attracting nearly 18,000 attendees from more than 100 countries, the American Heart Association Scientific Sessions is the premier opportunity for medical professionals to come together to share ideas on how to build healthier lives, free of cardiovascular disease and stroke. As a leader in the global healthcare field, Switzerland-based Novartis was looking to make a dynamic statement at the event through a colorful digital media and interactive trade show display. Wanting LED video to play a prominent role in the booth design, Novartis turned to Milan-based WorldWide Events and Vancouver-based Xibita to help them create a truly memorable digital media showcase using 13 different LED video design elements from PixelFLEX.

“We are the preferred supplier in North America for WorldWide Events who was retained by Novartis to create the AHA Scientific Sessions trade show display,” began Hanif Muljiani, President, Xibita. “When we all got together to speak about the design concept, they wanted a design that was open, friendly and natural, with warm tones and much more color than you would normally see in a typical pharmaceutical booth. They also wanted to feature LED video technology so that the graphic messaging could be changed very quickly, and while we typically do one video wall in a trade show design, this one was quite an immersive experience and the PixelFLEX technology really allowed us to make the design quite unique.”

As the design team began the process of selecting a LED video provider, they knew it would be a challenge to find all the elements needed to bring the complete design together. With so many LED video surfaces planned in the design, they needed a supplier with a breadth of innovative inventory plus the technical support to match. Off the recommendation of a colleague, they found both qualities in Nashville-based PixelFLEX.

“One of our biggest challenges was trying to find a company that could provide all of the LED video elements needed within our budget and timeframe,” continued Muljiani. “We only had about eight weeks to build the display and with that much technology, it definitely required everyone to work together to make it happen. For the technology, we needed a small pixel pitch and high resolution for the elements that would be viewed close-up, plus we needed video elements capable of working with the curved structures to create the archway that would be a focal point in the design. PixelFLEX has a significant amount of innovative inventory and they really helped us bring the whole project together.”

With PixelFLEX now on board, the design began to take shape and as they identified the ideal LED technologies needed for the design, the final concept included FLEXLite and FLEXLite Plus 3.9mm LED, and FLEXTour 2.8mm LED video technology.

“In the final design, we ended up flying all the LED video elements except for the curved arch structure and it really helped when PixelFLEX worked directly with Freeman to assess how we would support the structures in the booth,” added Muljiani. “We had five days at the show to build the complete installation and this was the first time we would actually put the entire system together. We live in a technology environment where things are inevitably going to be a challenge and to have an organization like PixelFLEX that you can count on to be adaptive and reliable is a tremendous advantage.”

Now that the LED video elements were all in place, it was time to program the content for the show so the design could finally come to life. Without having the opportunity to complete a full-scale mock-up prior to the opening of the show, Muljiani was excited to see the finished design for the first time.

“For the content, WorldWide Events worked with Novartis to create dynamic graphics along with presentation text and messaging to convey the attributes of the Novartis products,” explained Muljiani. “Driven by the mandate to attract attendees from all over the trade show floor, the finished design was very bright and colorful, and it looked absolutely beautiful.”

With their work now complete, the AHA Scientific Sessions opened the doors to the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center in New Orleans, Louisiana. Eager to see the reaction of the show attendees, Muljiani took a moment to stand back and take it all in, knowing that they had not only met, but surpassed all expectations for the Novartis trade show design.

“The day the show opened, my account manager and I stood back to look at the design and it was unbelievable,” concluded Muljiani. “Together we walked the show floor and from every angle the technology blended with the structures and balanced itself very well with the overall design. Technology should fit into the overall booth environment and not take it over, and that’s exactly what the PixelFLEX technology did. With the choice of colors and patterns along with the choices in pixel pitch and resolution, the entire design worked together as one cohesive display making it an exciting and visually captivating experience.”

Designer Chris Lisle creates an exciting and functional production design for one of country music’s hottest stars using FLEXCurtain HD LED video from tour sponsor Monster Energy

Nashville, 1/23/2017 – Since making his debut on Social Media and on shows such as X Factor and American Idol, RCA Nashville recording artist Kane Brown has seen a meteoric rise in the Country Music industry. Now regarded by many industry insiders as “one to watch”, Brown recently launched his first headlining tour in support of his self-titled debut album. Needing a production design to complement the Tennessee-native, his management team enlisted the assistance of designer Chris Lisle who got to work creating an exciting yet functional tour design which included PixelFLEX FLEXCurtain HD 6.25mm LED video supplied by tour sponsor Monster Energy.

“This is my first tour with Kane Brown as his production has now grown to a point where he needed creative direction, so I was contacted by his business manager and asked to come on board,” began Lisle. “Since he would be playing a wide variety of venues, we had to create a tour design that would work in houses of all sizes, but we also had to look at the logistical factors associated with the tour. We had to always keep in mind how much space was in the trailer, who was going to set-up and tear-down the system each night, and then how much power the rig would require. Needing compact touring elements, we were very fortunate to have the FLEXCurtain HD LED video wall because it’s a bright and high-performance product that can pack away very easily and it requires minimal tech time for the load-in and load-out.”

Lisle continued, “When management and I started discussing the tour, we knew we would have the main LED video wall and the two side columns supplied by tour sponsor Monster Energy, so we worked a lot of the production design around the LED video wall. While I had loosely worked with PixelFLEX before, it was never in a touring environment and we have really enjoyed working with the FLEXCurtain HD. It’s bright with a perfect intensity, and I’m hearing great things from the team on the road about its performance night-after-night.”

As the production team got to work designing the content for the LED video design, Lisle and his team had very specific ideas of how the design should work within the flow of the concert. Not wanting the video to take focus away from the artist and the music, they were cognizant to use it as an enhancement rather than a distraction.

“For the LED video design, we opted for a combination of stock content, custom design elements that we designed in-house, and then a few elements Kane already had in place from a previous tour with Florida Georgia Line,” explained Lisle. “We wanted to have a nice flow to the production design so there are a few songs where the LED video is soft and subtle, but then there are also times where the content is very rich and visual. This is how we like to design our shows because we don’t want fans staring at the video screens the entire time. We want them to enjoy the entire performance while keeping it visually interesting throughout the night.”

Another element to any production design is making sure than all the design features work together as one. Understanding how the LED video and lighting needed to complement each other, Lisle worked with programmer Erik Parker to ensure that all the elements stay connected throughout the show.

“One of the main things I always look for when designing is that the colors make sense,” admitted Lisle. “In my design style, I rarely have more than two colors up at any given time and that includes LED video content. I like very rich, solid content so when working with our programmer Erik Parker we are very cautious that each look is a cohesive design element, and he does an outstanding job.”

As the “Ain’t No Stopping Us Now Tour” continues its way across the United States, fans are lining up to spend an evening with one of Country Music’s hottest young stars. Looking back on the work that went into creating the production design behind the tour, Lisle is quick to acknowledge that the FLEXCurtain HD was a significant factor to its success, overcoming all logistical challenges and performing beautifully in all venues along the way.

“The major advantage of working with the FLEXCurtain HD on this tour was definitely its ease-of-use and performance functionality,” concluded Lisle. “On tours like this where we are getting the entire package inside one bus trailer, space is a big concern and it’s nice to be able to fold it up, put it in a road case, and go on down the highway. The FLEXCurtain HD is also bright and colorful enough to perform in any size venue, and it goes together very easily for a small crew. Simply put, it has been an ideal LED video solution for the ‘Ain’t No Stopping Us Now Tour’ and it looks great onstage.”
