A completely custom LED video rolling hoist system is created for the sanctuary renovation using the Parnelli-Award winning FLEXCurtain HD LED video technology

Nashville, 12/19/2016 – Similar to many worship families across the United States, the congregation at the First Baptist Church in Thomasville, Georgia, recently underwent a sanctuary renovation to offer both contemporary and traditional worship services. Working with Thomasville’s S&L Integrated on a complete audio, lighting and LED video renovation, the church wanted to make sure that while the technical systems received an update, the traditional aesthetics of the sanctuary were not affected.  Desiring a solution that would enable the use of a dynamic LED video system for the contemporary services while discreetly hiding it for the traditional, S&L Integrated teamed with JR Clancy to create a unique roll-up LED video system using FLEXCurtain HD from Nashville-based PixelFLEX.

“We’ve developed a wonderful relationship with First Baptist Church over the years, so when they approached us about conceptualizing updated technology for their sanctuary renovation, we jumped at the opportunity,” said S&L Marketing and Communications Director Clay Byars. “Operating under a mandate to keep the aesthetics of the traditional sanctuary intact, they asked us to create an engaging ‘rock-n-roll’ atmosphere for the contemporary services, but the necessity for tucking away the technology during the traditional service was a challenge, and we were thankful for the assistance of JR Clancy and the FLEXCurtain HD LED video technology from PixelFLEX.”

The Parnelli Award-winning FLEXCurtain HD is a lightweight and flexible LED video screen ideal for high resolution video playback and video effects for a wide range of worship applications. Its hi-res LED video can be driven by any DVI output, and the multi-directional, flexible design makes it easy to store and transport. FLEXCurtain HD is 60-90% lighter than the competition, and using the quick-lock system, 500 square feet of FLEXCurtain HD can be set up and broken down in under 15 minutes.

Byars continued, “We developed the idea of a roll-up system so the products didn’t have to be manually taken down during worship service changeovers. We contacted the team at JR Clancy to discuss the possibility of collaborating on the roller-mechanisms, and the church loved the idea.”

“This was definitely a first for our company,” admitted JR Clancy Project Manager Michael Braico. “We have rolled, hoisted and folded many things since our founding in 1885, but a flexible LED screen capable of rolling up and storing in the ceiling was a completely new type of project.”

At that point, the team needed to find the ideal LED technology that could work within the custom setup. Since such a system had never been created before, they needed technology with a reputation for excellent performance and durability and this led them to PixelFLEX.

“We knew that the durability of the LED product would be essential to the success of the video system,” explained Byars. “Since the PixelFLEX LED technologies have been road-tested in high-energy touring productions, we were confident the FLEXCurtain HD could handle the challenges associated with a rolling system and give the church a multitude of design possibilities for any worship service.”

Braico added, “The strength of the PixelFLEX LED video screens lies in their flexible, modular and easily expandable design. One of the challenges was that each section had its own power supply, which increased the space needed inside the hoist housing. On the other hand, this allowed for each screen to stand alone or daisy-chain with the adjacent panels, making this a world-first design.”

With the full renovation now complete, the finished system operates as easily as a group of roll-up window shades, with the simple push of a button. No longer bound by the constraints of projection, the church is free to explore new levels of creativity for its contemporary services.

“While other LED video products may be hindered by rigid panels that bolt together, the FLEXCurtain HD was the perfect solution for a rolling-hoist system,” concluded JR Clancy Systems Integrator Eric Huss. “We are constantly asked to develop custom solutions to fulfill customer requests, and it was very exciting to work with both S&L Integrated and PixelFLEX to make the idea at First Baptist Church in Thomasville a design reality.”

Award-winning LED video manufacturer debuts a new and innovative 3D video technology with partner 3D Live which allows viewers to experience an augmented reality design

Nashville, 11/10/2016 – As the LDI 2016 Conference and Tradeshow got underway inside the Las Vegas Convention Center, the award-winning LED video manufacturer PixelFLEX debuted its new AR-LED technology with partner 3D Live. As true Augmented Reality experience, the AR-LED video design received an overwhelmingly positive response, and the technology is now preparing for its initial launch into the world of entertainment and commercial LED video design.

“We could not be more pleased with the response we received from the performance of our new AR-LED video technology,” said David Venus, PixelFLEX Director of Marketing. “There were many times where viewers simply sat in amazement, mesmerized by what they were seeing. After such a positive response, we are very excited about launching the AR-LED into the market to see just how creative designers can truly be.”

Utilizing the patented lensing found in the FLEXLite series if LED panels, the new AR-LED has a 6mm pixel pitch with a broad viewing angle of 140 degrees horizontal and vertical. With each tile measuring 500mm x 1000mm, PixelFLEX created an impressive 28ft x 13ft demo wall at LDI, and then added lasers to bring the full Augmented Reality experience to life.

“Although still tethered to the glasses, this is by far and away the most immersive 3D LED video technology I’ve experienced,” admitted Doyle Martin, VP of Show Services and Director of Design Services at TLS Productions, Inc. “I know a number of folks who have been waiting for this type of technology, and from what I’ve seen, it is finally something that is ready for deployment in the field.”

“While I had heard of 3D LED video screen technology before, the idea seemed very gimmicky,” added Craig Rutherford, Blueshift Design. “But walking into the PixelFLEX demo room at LDI and putting on the glasses changed all that. Used correctly, the AR-LED technology really does open up a whole new world of creative possibilities that we simply haven’t seen before.”

Technical director Bryan Shaner revamps the annual conferences production design at the Auburn Adventist Academy using FLEXLite 6.9mm LED video technology

Nashville, 10/31/2016 – With more than 18 million members, the Seventh-day Adventist church is one of the fastest-growing Christian denominations in the world. As a ministry, the church seeks to enable their community through education and outreach activities which includes their annual Camp Meeting conferences. Working with the Washington Seventh-day Adventist conference, technical director Bryan Shaner was looking to implement LED video technology into a revamped production design at the Auburn Adventist Academy, and he found his solution by using FLEXLite 6.9mm LED video from Nashville-based PixelFLEX.

“I’ve been working with the Washington Seventh-day Adventists Camp Meeting since about 1998 and we currently have about 110 churches in our organization,” began Shaner. “Every year, each state holds their own conference where all the churches, schools and organizations within that state congregate in one location, and in Washington we hold our Camp Meeting at the Auburn Adventist Academy. During the two-week conference, we have multiple events in various locations held throughout the day and we then use the gym for a general assembly area where this year we introduced the use of the FLEXLite LED video technology into our production design.”

Built on the importance of meeting the needs of every client, FLEXLite LED from PixelFLEX is one of the highest resolution and curve-able LED displays on the market; capable of a 15-degree curve in any direction. With its bright, dense display and high refresh rate, FLEXLite LED video tiles are calibrated directly out of the box to help decrease failure and insure perfect color and brightness, plus its preview test button allows for easy viewing of signal and power connections.

“A couple of years back we first started talking about the possibility of using LED video but at that time the pixel pitch wasn’t what we needed, so we purchased 10K projectors with a rear-screen mirror,” continued Shaner. “Over the next few years we were never really happy with image quality and we were spending a lot of money on replacement lenses and filters. This year, we revisited the possibility of LED video and after looking at a couple of manufacturers we loved the ease-of-setup of the PixelFLEX technology and the fact that the content wouldn’t get washed out when we layer in our stage lighting. Plus we would no longer have to worry about bulbs, mirrors or filters, and the FLEXLite 6.9mm LED video works great.”

As the decision was made to implement FLEXLite into the production design, Shaner began the load-in at the Auburn Adventist Academy without the assistance of a typical crew. Needing the video wall assembly process to move as smoothly as possible, he was surprised to find just how quickly the FLEXLite LED panels connect together along with the visual design possibilities they can create.

“Since we were no longer bound by projection technology, this year we decided to create two FLEXLite LED video screens with each measuring about 20 feet wide,” added Shaner. “Once the product was onsite it was surprising how quickly I was able to assemble the walls with the assistance of one of our pastors who just happened to be walking by. I also love how using the FLEXLite technology gives us the ability to create any size or number of screens that we want, and the support from PixelFLEX is outstanding. When you’ve previously lived life with a projector you are constantly thinking about screen size and throw distance, but when you move into LED video that all goes away and you have so many options to now create dynamic visual content.”

With the production design now complete, the 2016 Washington Seventh Day Adventists Camp Meeting opened its doors for the two-week celebration. Throughout the course of the event, Shaner watched as attendees and event organizers all marveled at the performance of the FLEXLite LED video, and he is proud that they have put their past design challenges behind them.

“Going into this design our biggest concern was the image quality and brightness because of our past experience with the projectors,” concluded Shaner. “But on the contrary, when I turned the stage lighting on full, it didn’t affect the image quality or brightness of the FLEXLite LED video wall at all. Everyone was extremely pleased because no matter if you were in the front of the house or the back, the image quality was crisp, clean and consistent. When you consider the ease of set-up and the maintenance costs of LED video vs projection, there really is no comparison, and our PixelFLEX LED video wall looked phenomenal.”

Rethink Innovations helps create a warm and engaging LED video fireplace for the flagship retail experience in SoHo using FLEXLite 6.9mm LED video technology

Nashville, 10/6/2016 – Founded in 2002, Sonos was created to fill every home with music, and the whole home audio system is now sold in more than 60 countries, through thousands of retailers, custom installers and audio/video specialty stores. With its recent decision to open a retail location of its own in New York City, General Manager of Stores Whitney Walker was asked to oversee the creation of a unique listening experience in which customers could discover Sonos just as they would in the comfort of a friend’s home. Needing a finishing accent for the downstairs lounge, Walker called upon Rethink Innovations to help create a warm and engaging 30-foot fireplace display, and they did so using FLEXLite 6.9mm LED video technology from Nashville-based PixelFLEX.

“Our objective for the Sonos flagship retail location was to build the best place for someone to discover and fall in love with whole home audio,” began Walker. “While that may seem simple, it’s really not because the level of education people have with the product varies widely, so we had to achieve the highest standard for product demonstrations. In the store there are seven different home-like listening rooms and a lounge downstairs where we wanted a warm, gallery-like setting. In the lounge, we needed a design feature that would enhance the space and give it a relaxing vibe.  We found our solution in a LED video wall fireplace that adds dynamism and warmth to the store.”

Walker continued, “The original design sketches had an actual gas fireplace but the feature needed to be behind a glass enclosure so the solution quickly switched to LED video. From previous work, we knew Rethink Innovations had experience in this area of design so we reached out to them and began building a full scale prototype of the store out in California.”

“After meeting with the team at Sonos we knew they wanted to create a unique and cohesive LED video experience, but we had to be aware of heat-load issues based upon how the system would be installed,” explained Eric Christoffersen, Managing Partner Rethink Innovations. “When we started to look at what technology would make the design a success, we knew that if we turned the FLEXLite LED panels 90 degrees we could achieve the linear fireplace experience with no separation of the content and no heat issues whatsoever. To do this, we used eight of the FLEXLite LED video panels to create the immense 30-foot fireplace and it looks great.”

Walker added, “While we were building the design prototype, we were looking at a few LED manufacturers, and PixelFLEX actually sent demo gear and a technician to show us what their technology could do. That really was the deciding factor. They genuinely seemed to care about the retail design experience, and their willingness to work within our design process was exceptional.”

With the prototype store design complete, it was now time to turn their attention to SoHo where the flagship Sonos retail experience would come to life on 101 Greene Street.

“We knew it would be a little tricky to connect the LED panels together because there was no rear access to the unit,” explained Christoffersen. “To gain access, we had to cut small openings behind the wall to slip our arms through which allowed us to then quickly tie the panels together. For the content, we then used the BrightSign player which was running the other visual displays throughout the store and a PixelFLEX SU401 sending unit to easily load the fire onto the LED wall. Working with a PixelFLEX engineer, I was then able to fine tweak the final display and the system works great.”

“Once it was complete there was a tremendous sense of pride in the overall design from everyone involved,” admitted Walker. “In retail it is often difficult to get customers to move from the ground floor to a second level, and I am surprised at how many people want to visit the downstairs lounge. We were initially worried that it may not get the foot traffic to justify the expenditure, but on the contrary it has been a wonderful success with the LED fireplace being a visually engaging finishing accent that helps us convey the experience of a Sonos whole-home audio lifestyle.”

On July 19, 2016, the Sonos flagship retail location opened its doors at 101 Greene Street, and the consumer response has been outstanding. Seeing the first-hand effects of LED video in a retail environment, Walker is confident that while the technology may be new to some retail designers, it certainly won’t be for long.

“I really think we are still in the early stages of seeing the true impact of LED video digital signage in the retail environment,” concluded Walker. “Right now a lot of designers want to approach it from a visual communications perspective, but in our design we embraced it as an artistic choice. Seeing the Sonos store in operation now for a little over two months, I think we nailed it with people wanting to spend time in the store whether it’s in the listening rooms or the downstairs lounge. Seeing the actual customer response to the video fireplace is gratifying.”

Award-winning LED video manufacturer announces New York-based MediaLight Inc. as their newest production partner with the acquisition of FLEXLite NXG LED video technology

Nashville, 10/3/2016 – With over 22 years of experience in motion picture production, MediaLight Inc. is a New York City-based lighting and video design firm in the Motion Picture industry who has seen a number of revolutionizing technology innovations. As LED video has continued to evolve its technology, designer Frank Blasko has been creating unique and exciting applications that range from dynamic LED video backgrounds to LED video lighting. Now needing a solution that can work within all the parameters of his lighting and video designs, Blasko and MediaLight Inc. have made an investment in FLEXLite NXG 3.9mm and 8.9mm LED video technology becoming the newest PixelFLEX production partner.

“I’ve been working in the motion picture industry for over two decades and we are now seeing multiple opportunities emerging for the application of LED video lighting, so we wanted to be at the forefront of that technology,” began Blasko. “Typically when you create effects for motion picture, it’s shot on blue or green screen and then all of your CG is done in post-production. By using the high-resolution FLEXLite NXG LED, we are now able to record all of the background effects on camera in real time which gives the production a more dynamic and cost effective final result.”

With one of the highest resolution displays on the market, the FLEXLite NXG is available in two panel sizes with 2.6mm-6.25mm pitch options for an even deeper layer of creativity, plus a 6.25mm full outdoor, IP65 version as well. For optimum performance, preview test modes allow video designers to be confident in the output of the FLEXLite NXG before full deployment and the LED tiles are calibrated directly out of the box to ensure perfect color and brightness. With serviceability in mind, easy access to the back of panels allows for quick and simple on-site repairs.

“During our research we looked at the different products and resolutions that PixelFLEX offered and one of the key elements was that the technology of the LED allowed it to be flicker-free on camera,” admitted Blasko. “When I initially met with the PixelFLEX team we did a few technical tests in their factory, but then they sent me sample LED panels to use on-location for additional camera tests and to evaluate the stability of the product line. When all of our testing and research was complete, we found PixelFLEX to be the most stable technology and it has been outstanding.”

“From a design perspective, I also wanted to use the FLEXLite technology as a lighting element on set as a moving, motivated source,” continued Blasko. “This was a new technique that I had been working on as LED video technology evolved and I finally have a product that makes it work. Previously, the individual RGB diodes in LED created color shading, shadowing and separation making it unable to achieve a full color spectrum wavelength. I needed a product with a full spectrum video signal so that I could use it as a lighting source to achieve any color needed through additive layering, and then also use the content as motivated lighting for our subjects. With the FLEXLite NXG technology we are now able to use the same content in the background as an actual lighting source and it gives our shots a very authentic feel on-camera and it has been a huge success.”

With the FLEXLite NXG LED video technology now in stock, Blasko and his design team immediately began putting the new system to work. Excited about the various video applications and lighting nuances the FLEXLite NXG LED video would now offer, he has experienced nothing but success for his clients on their productions.

“So far we have put the FLEXLite NXG technology to great use working on projects for NBC’s Saturday Night Live, Stella Artois, Le Perla and many more,” added Blasko. “For Stella Artois, they had a couple of ideas for concept that included the use of projection, so in our initial meeting I brought the FLEXLite NXG 3.9mm to the tech scout and did a presentation with their content from the treatment. They were so blown away that they decided to use it as the main background for the video shoot.”

“With La Perla, we introduced our new video lighting concept with the FLEXLite NXG lighting the entire video shoot with LED video content. To do this we used two 3.9mm panels as the back light, two additional 3.9mm panels for the key light, and then we used two 8.9mm panels that we bounced off a 12×12 white for our fill light. For the content, we ran a fire effect on each of the three groups of panels and then slowed down the speed of the fill light panels to give them a slightly different dramatic lighting effect.”

“On the multiple Saturday Night Live shoots, we constructed 8’x16’ screens with our FLEXLite NXG 3.9mm to create high resolution back drops with active content, instead of traditional green screen. All of the background effects were shot real time, in camera which saved time and post production cost while providing a fully controllable background for the shoot. The results were phenomenal.”

As new technology is introduced into any new market, it often takes a little time to understand its full potential. Nashville-based LED video manufacturer announces the launch of one of the most innovative LED video solutions available today for the fixed installation market

Nashville, Date – The award-winning LED video display manufacturer PixelFLEX is proud to announce the launch of the TrueFLEX LED video tile. Ideal for fixed installations which require a non-traditional LED solution, TrueFLEX offers more flexibility than ever before through its ability to curve in any direction and attach to virtually any surface while still providing a high-resolution LED video playback system. Available in 2.5mm, 3.0mm, 4.0mm, 6mm and 10mm indoor pitch options, the TrueFLEX LED video system now gives designers the opportunity to achieve unlimited creativity where traditional LED displays were not possible.

“Our goal at PixelFLEX is to provide our customers with the technology that will afford them the ability to create without boundaries or limitations,” said David Venus, PixelFLEX Director of Marketing. “As we have continued to grow in the video integration and AV design markets, we’ve experienced designers and architects alike asking for the ability to create more than normal rectangle or square LED video displays. With its limitless curving aspects, high-resolution modules, and completely quiet operation, TrueFLEX not only provides an ideal solution for these applications, but it is also one of the most innovative LED video products available today.”

Designed to create seamless convex or concave curved video walls, TrueFLEX offers a wide range of pitch options for high-resolution video playback of creative LED video content. The fanless design allows for a no-noise solution that can operate in any indoor space, and its slim and lightweight construction provides a low-profile installation that needs very little space for wiring and mounting. With its single module replacement for easy onsite service, TrueFLEX uses magnetic modules and set screw ports to attach to virtually any surface, and the external sending and receiving control, paired with quality connectors, guarantee safe and reliable module connections.

“When looking at the full potential of LED video displays in the architectural market, TrueFLEX now gives designers the freedom to create an unforgettable display no matter if the mounting surface is curved or flat,” continued Venus. “Today, LED video displays are becoming more than simple video playback, they are becoming immersive experiences and this was the driving force behind the introduction of our TrueFLEX LED video technology.”
